Anatolian Tribal Rugs 1050-1750: The Orient Stars Collection

A HALI PUBLICATION

This magnificent collection, published here in a new volume, is unique. Among the seventy-five carefully selected masterpieces, we find some of the most important examples of a mysterious and ancient Central Asian iconography, brought by the Turkmen nomads to Anatolia. The fabulous creatures disguised within their patterns hint at hopes for a long and fruitful life, carrying the soul of the weaver into the afterlife. These shamanistic ornaments are set within compositions recalling the ever-changing night skies and the movements of the stars.

This new publication illustrates each masterpiece in exceptionally high resolution, allowing the reader to almost touch each carpet and be transported to a lost world. The lavish plates are accompanied by hundreds of comparative illustrations from museums and private collections around the world. Anatolian Tribal Rugs 1050-1750: The Orient Stars Collection represents an unparalleled study of early Anatolian rugs; a must for all lovers of oriental carpets.

About the Orient Stars Collection

Between 1985 and 2005, Heinrich and Waltraut Kirchheim formed the most beautiful and significant collection of Anatolian rugs in private hands. They acquired masterpieces from the very highest period of this art form, later adding ancient textiles as they pursued the origins of the fascinating symbols. The Kirchheim family decided to sponsor this publication not only to present their outstanding collection, but also to place it within its historical context, bringing this little-known subject to a wider audience.
